The Vocus Cork Analyzer (VCA) combines a high-productivity autosampler with a high-resolution TOF mass spectrometer. These two combined technologies non-destructively analyze individual natural cork stoppers to check for the presence of TCA and other aromas and automatically select the stoppers based on the detected concentrations.
The VCA is capable of analyzing a single natural cork stopper in just 2 seconds, quantifying TCA with a detection limit of only 0.05 ng/L, with accuracy and precision superior to the standard, slow, and destructive ISO-OIV methods. Thanks to its high productivity, a single VCA system can analyze 1,800 cork stoppers per hour and about 10 million stoppers per year.
The quantification of TCA with high-resolution time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry, therefore through the measurement of the exact mass of the main ions (mass accuracy ~ 1 ppm) and their isotopic ratios, achieves maximum precision and excludes the presence of false negatives or positives.
